Equality and Diversity

This learning unit will assist you to become more knowledgeable and confident about incorporating the principles of equality and diversity into your practice. It will complement the local induction and training activities which will be offered by your NHS Board.


To be able to recognise and value diversity within your healthcare setting to ensure positive behaviour towards patients, carers, colleagues and the wider health and social care team.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this unit, and following a period of reflective practice you will be able to:

  • demonstrate how an increased awareness, knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity can inform your practice and care delivery.
  • identify the impact of different cultures, values and choices upon the delivery of person centred healthcare provision.
  • understand, respect and value all factors contributing to a positive experience of receiving healthcare for patients and families.
  • demonstrate how working collaboratively with the multi-professional health and social care team can improve the patient journey
